MEMBERS of a leisure centre have shared their frustrations over broken equipment that has been out of action for months.

Customers at Langley Leisure Centre, on Parlaunt Road, have raised concerns over the lack of repairs and slammed service as 'dismal'.

One member, who lives nearby and wished to remain anonymous, said: “It’s getting stressful for members as nothing gets fixed.

“The steam room and spa facilities haven’t worked properly for six months and there are currently five treadmills in the gym that are out of action.”

The member also shared concerns on how wristbands have been introduced for members to book for each session, and 'inconvenient' pool timings.

The timings - introduced during the pandemic - mean members aren’t allowed to use the pool between midday and 8pm.

“People want to use the facilities straight after work and don’t want to wait around until 8pm to go for a swim,” he added.

Another member, who wished to remain anonymous, said she feels the customer service is “dismal”.

She said: “I live minutes away from the gym and it’s convenient, but the staff are just so rude, we get no greeting, no smiles, and we just get ignored.

“The rules are not clear when something changes, and we never get notified if a machine or facility is out of order.

“The leisure centre is supposed to be a place where you go to de-stress but it’s currently not doing that at the moment.”

The member claimed many customers have stopped their membership as a result of the recent issues.

Contract manager of Everyone Active Luke Routhorn said: “We take pride in giving all our customers the best possible service and we’re sorry to hear this customer hasn’t felt satisfied on this occasion.

“Between December 2021 and March 2022, the steam room was experiencing intermittent faults, which were thoroughly investigated, and the issue was identified.

“Unfortunately, the parts had to be shipped from Europe and this coincided with a period where the country was enduring delivery delays.”

Mr Routhorn added this resulted in the centre being unable reopen the facility as quickly as they’d hoped.

He added: “The jacuzzi has unfortunately been out of order for almost a month due to a technical issue.

“Contractors are due onsite Thursday (June 16) and we are hopeful a solution to resolve the matter is imminent.

“We always aim to keep customers updated on any closures or issues.”

Mr Routhorn said the covid restrictions are still in place due to most customers preferring it.

He said: “The booking system and management of numbers has enabled a more pleasant experience for those wishing to utilise our pools.

“We are continually reviewing our processes, however, and capacity of our lanes are due to increase within the coming weeks.

“Customers are also now able to solely book to use the jacuzzi and steam room without the need to book a swimming session.”

Mr Routhorn added wristbands for swimmers was introduced due to “oversubscribed” sessions.

He said: “This system has been very successful and has enabled us to manage the booking system more efficiently, with more spaces now available.”
