A VENUE has been allowed to continue to run as a lap dancing club despite objectors wanting it to go elsewhere as the town goes through major changes.

Maidenhead’s Honeypot Gentlemen’s Club on Queen Street was told to move away from the town centre by protesters, believing it is no longer needed as the town goes under major regeneration – with new flats and shops being developed.

The Honeypot, which has been a lap dancing club for over 10 years, had to renew its sexual entertainment venue licence every year.

But objectors spoke out of its application, triggering a licencing sub-committee on Monday, May 9. After the meeting, councillors ultimately agreed to grant the Honeypot its licence as applied for.

Christina Sequoia said she had “no moral objections” against the venue but thinks the location is not right for the Honeypot as it undergoes changes and suggested it should move to another location in Maidenhead as it will “hold back” the regeneration.

She said: “I think the regeneration of Maidenhead is well underway. The rebuilding opposite the David Lloyd’s [The Landing site] is going very quickly and that’s very close to that area.

“I would question that people would want to live near there or businesses opening up near there. I personally would not feel comfortable sitting outside a café or a bar next to the Honeypot regardless of how nice it was.”

Honeypot owner John Sennett said the area is changing “incredibly slowly” and believes it will change in many years to come rather than in the short term.
