AN ARGOS store in Slough announced it will close later this year.

The catalogue retailer, which was acquired by Sainsbury’s in 2016, confirmed its Bath Road shop will shut to customers.

An Argos spokesperson explained colleagues at the store are being offered opportunities for alternative roles within Sainsbury’s.

They said: “As part of our plans to make shopping convenient for customers and to enable us to invest where it matters most to customers, we are relocating many of our Argos standalone stores to Sainsbury’s.

“By bringing together the much-loved brands of Sainsbury’s and Argos under the one roof, our customers can enjoy greater convenience as the new Argos will enable them to purchase thousands of technology, home and toy products whilst picking up their groceries.

“This service is also available at our Taplow Superstore.”

When we shared this news with our readers on social media, a lot of people shared the same thoughts on the store’s closure.

Christine Ayres said: “It’s not good at all as Argos is very convenient instead of waiting days for a delivery from Amazon or eBay.

“You can just walk in same day at Argos and get what you need.”

Karen Rose said: “They are owned by Sainsbury’s, they will close them all eventually, that retail park is like a ghost town most of the time.”

Miranda Cousins added she wasn’t happy with the news as she doesn’t drive and the Sainsbury’s ones are too far away.

Another reader explained they think the Marks and Spencer from across the road should move into the retail park instead.

Cindy Williamson said: “I used to shop at Argos loads years ago but over the last ten years I have found the quality of what they sell has dropped and what wasn't too bad was never in stock anywhere.

“Now they are closing all the more convenient stores, I can't see them being around much longer at this rate.”

Gemma Reid added: “There are so many people that don't drive in Slough, why are you making the few things we have left so difficult for people?”

And Pauline Jones added it’s “not worth going to the retail park now”.

She said: “The Next has hardly any women’s clothes, it’s all children’s and baby clothes and the Boots has hardly any No7 stock.”

Julie Taylor explained when she went into the store the other week there were only a couple of staff members.

She said: “I use the tills as I was putting goods on my Argos card and even then the staff member took me to the machines to do it myself, there won’t be any staff left to relocate.”
