AFTER months of delay, the notorious ‘Sue Gray report’ has been published that probed 12 alleged illegal lockdown gatherings at Number 10.

The UK’s top civil servant was meant to publish her findings into lockdown parties held at Downing Steet earlier this year but was pushed back when the Metropolitan Police announced they were investigating the alleged breaches.

An interim report in January outlined “failures of leadership and judgement” in Number 10. The police have now concluded their investigation and dished out 126 fixed penalty notices, including one for Prime Minister Boris Johnson and another for the Chancellor of Exchequers Rishi Sunak.

Sue Gray said many of these events should not have happened and pointed the finger at senior leaders. She wrote: “The senior leadership at the centre, both political and official, must bear responsibility for this culture.”

A total of 6,046 people across the UK died within 28 days of a positive Covid test when these parties occurred. This number includes 11 in both Slough and the Royal Borough of Windsor and Maidenhead respectively.

On January 14, 2021, a gathering was held at No 10 to mark the departure of two private secretaries. The police investigation determined that this event did not breach the rules in place at the time.

However, this was the ‘party date’ that saw the most deaths in the boroughs, which is four deaths in Slough and six in the Royal Borough.
