Platinum Jubilee flypast set to go over Berkshire

A huge formation of more than 70 aircraft, including the famous Red Arrows, will be taking to the skies over Buckingham Palace on Thursday, June 2, to complete the Queen’s birthday parade as part of Platinum Jubilee celebrations.

The Queen is expected to watch the flypast from the palace balcony with other members of the royal family.

But after the flypast has taken place in London, the aircraft are expected to fly over parts of Berkshire as they disperse.

According to militaryairshows.co.uk, the flypast will start in the vicinity of The Wash, the North Sea and Southwold on the east coast, before heading over Suffolk and Southend, Thetford and Colchester towards London to overfly Buckingham Palace.

After London, the formation will disperse to the south and west of the London Control Overzone – over Buckinghamshire, Berkshire, Surrey, Kent, Oxfordshire, Gloucestershire and Wiltshire.

It means the planes may be spotted in areas like Reading, parts of Bracknell, Slough, Burnham, Wooburn Green and Taplow.

It will take six minutes to fly over the crowds and is expected to include more than three times the number of aircraft which took part in the Queen’s last birthday parade flypast in central London in 2019.

The display will include helicopters from the Royal Navy and the Army and RAF aircraft recently seen responding to events in Kabul and Ukraine and the coronavirus pandemic.

The flypast will also include highlights from the history of the RAF, including aircraft from the Royal Air Force Battle of Britain Memorial Flight.
