A MUSIC festival eyeing to use another field prompts health and safety concerns from Cookham locals.

Since 2009, thousands of music lovers have attended Let’s Rock the Moor near Cookham village to see their favourite 80s bands perform their greatest hits.

This year’s line-up includes the Squeeze, Wet Wet Wet, Jason Donovan, Heatwave, and many more.

Applicant UK Live Limited want to licence the two fields to the south of Long Lane for the event just in case they are unable to use the usual site on Marsh Meadow.

Their application includes playing live music until 10:30pm and serving alcohol until 10pm.

But objections from the nearby Copas Farm and Cookham councillor Mandy Brar triggered the licence application to be heard at a licensing sub-committee on Friday, May 6.

Representing the farm, Claire Wright said people walking down the un-lit Long Lane with fast cars approaching would be unsafe for people, especially drunk people, during the dark hours as it has no pavements.

She also feared the noise from the two fields could disturb the farm’s animals and pets.

While not objecting to Rock the Moor taking place on Marsh Meadows as it has been over 10 years, Cllr Brar shared Ms Wright’s concerns.

She said: “I have huge reservations about having Rock the Moor on Long Lane, because the event generates a huge amount of traffic, 10.000 people bought tickets plus all those involved setting up the site for the event.

“Long Lane has no pavements, no streetlights for many pedestrians to walk from the train station along Switchback Road. Thousands [of people] leave the site after the events is finished the site is dark [and the] health and safety will be a real issue.”
