THE Royal Borough’s local plan is set to be adopted next week… but it won’t be debated at the usual spot.

After more than a decade in the works, the borough local plan 2013 – 2033, which earmarks thousands of homes across the borough, will be considered by councillors on Tuesday, February 8.

However, it won’t be debated in the council chamber or the Desborough Theatre at Maidenhead town hall.

Instead, the extraordinary full council meeting will be held at the Holiday Inn in Maidenhead.

A council spokesman said: “We’ve deliberately chosen a large venue with plenty of car parking spaces, given the significant public interest. The most convenient way to watch is live via YouTube at https://t.co/SO8CGzRqBd but if people wish to attend in person, please take a negative Lateral Flow Test beforehand and consider wearing a face covering.

“Public seating spaces are still limited to around 170 so please arrive early to avoid disappointment. Members of the public who have submitted questions in advance will have a reserved seat available if they wish to attend the meeting in person.”

At the town hall, campaigners from the Maidenhead Great Park group are set to oppose the plans and urge councillors to reject the major document.

Tina Quadrino, one of the leading members of Maidenhead Great Park, said: “Our council is using out-of-date figures for housing need in our area to justify the destruction of our green space. They say there’s nowhere else to build, but any development should be focused on brownfield sites and there are plenty available in our borough.”

The extraordinary meeting will start at 7pm while the protest will happen outside Maidenhead town hall at 6pm on the same day.
