Plans to build a new hotel in Windsor town centre to fully go ahead at Boots 17 – 18, Peascod Street, Windsor (20/03514/FULL).

Slough Observer:

Developer Canada Life had its plans to develop the rear of Boots – which will be retained albeit smaller than it originally was - into a 116-bed home hotel with a restaurant, bar, and back of house facilities.

The new hotel, which will be up to four-storeys in height, will front onto Mellor Walk and will be a ‘car free’ development as the developers believe tourists will be visiting Windsor via public transport, defeating the need for parking.

Councillors gave the thumbs up for the scheme to go ahead subject of the developer completing its agreement with the council and securing a travel plan, a plan that shows how the development will mitigate its impact on the highway during the construction period.

This has now been agreed where development is now to fully go ahead.

Slough school applies for permission for motorists to use its playground and staff car park at Ryvers Primary School, Trelawney Avenue, Slough (P/07233/012).

The school wants to allow motorists to use its playground and staff car park for overflowing parking for Park and Ride (P + R) services to Heathrow Airport during out-of-term periods to gain additional funds for educational services.

These are marked ‘Zone1’ and ‘Zone 2’ on the application drawings. Both zones have hard tarmac or concrete surfaces.

The Heathrow Park and Ride service are located elsewhere and in the event that that site is oversubscribed P+R Staff will drive the vehicles for storage on the Ryvers School Site.

P+R drivers will leave the site after depositing the vehicle. Access to the site will be restricted to the period between 7am and 7pm during school holidays and the site will be kept secure at all times. The service provider will be responsible for security and upkeep during the periods of use.

Slough planning officers are still yet to determine this application.

Developer withdraws plan to convert building to flats at 21 High Street, Ascot (21/03720/CLAMA).

Plans were withdrawn after a parish council and residents objected to a scheme to transform a Lloyds TSB Bank into two one-bedroom flats with two car parking spaces.

An agent wrote on behalf of the owner of four flats at nearby Meadhurst. They wrote: “Queens Place, Ascot is a small cul-de-sac in which there are a number of flats.

“Parking is a nightmare as there is limited space to even turn around a car. As the plan shows there are only two parking spaces provided to which access to them is already difficult.

“My client owns the adjoining garage block which access is required and with this proposed development, it is inevitable that access to these garages will be impeded. Any delivery vans will therefore, no doubt, be forced to use the driveway at Meadhurst which is totally unacceptable.”
