THIRTY nine areas across Berkshire now appear within the highest bracket of Covid case rates on an interactive map on the government website.

A colour-coded map depicts areas where case rates are above 1,600 per 100,000 people in black.

The latest data for the seven days to January 5, shows a total of 39 locations across Berkshire in the ‘black zone’. And 12 of the areas have rates above 2,000.

In the seven days to December 31, there were just 13 'black zone' areas in the Royal County.

On the government map, the country is split up by Middle Super Output Areas (MSOA), which are small areas with an average population of 7,200, and the data is updated each weekday, with the map showing the last seven days for which complete data is available.

The map colour-codes areas depending on their seven-day rolling rate, with areas placed into the boundaries of 0-9, 10-49, 50-99, 100-199, 200-399, 400 to 799, 800 to 1,599 and 1,600 plus.

The 39 areas in Berkshire with case rates above 1,600:

  1. Chavey Down & North Ascot West - 118 cases, down 1.7 per cent on the previous week with 2 more infections. Case rate 1,613.3.
  2. Wick Hill - 187 cases, up 0.5 per cent on the previous week with 1 more infection. Case rate: 1,862.7
  3. Priestwood - 163 cases, up 37.0 per cent on the last seven days with 62 more cases. Rate: 2,390.4
  4. Central Bracknell & Wildridings - 288 cases, up 32.7 per cent on the previous week with 71 more cases. Case rate: 2,472.3
  5. Birch Hill & Hanworth East - 129 cases, down by 4.4 per cent with 6 more infections. Case rate: 1,715.4
  6. Hanworth West - 130 cases, up by 12.1 per cent on the previous week with 14 more cases. Case rate: 1,911.5
  7. Owlsmoor & Broadmoor - 147 cases, up by 8.9 per cent on the previous week with 12 more cases. Rate: 2,130.7
  8. Binfield and Popeswood - 226 cases, up by 34.5 per cent on the previous week with 58 more case. Case rate: 2,064.3
  9. College Town - 154 cases, up by 33.9 per cent on the previous week with 39 more cases. Case rate: 2,049.8
  10. Sandhurst - 146 cases, up by 14.1 per cent on the previous week with 18 more cases. Rate: 2,164.6
  11. Arborfield & Garrison - 124 cases, up by 9.7 per cent on the previous week with 11 more cases. Rate: 1,696.3
  12. Barkham & Woose Hill - 120 cases, up by 12.1 per cent on the previous week with 13 more cases. Rate: 1,756.7
