THE Liberal Democrats have announced a Windsor parliamentary candidate in hopes to break the Tory blue wall if a by-election goes ahead.

Julian Tisi, the Lib Dems parliamentary candidate, is already gearing up to take on the Conservatives by campaigning if a by-election is triggered depending on the outcome of Windsor MP Adam Afriyie’s bankruptcy proceedings.

Court records show a petition for bankruptcy has been filed by HRMC against Mr Afriyie, who has represented the constituency since 2005, on October 25.

If Mr Afriyie does declare bankruptcy, it does not necessarily mean he will have to step down as an MP and trigger a by-election – unless a bankrupt restriction order is made against him as set out under Parliamentary rules.

MP Adam Afriyie said: “I will of course pay any tax that is due.”

Following on from the Lib Dem wins in Chesham and Amersham and North Shropshire, the party is hoping to build that momentum and breakthrough another blue wall in Windsor.

Julian Tisi lives in Windsor with his wife and his three children. He also stood for the Lib Dems in the 2019 general election and increased the Lib Dem vote share by more than 11 per cent.

Mr Tisi said: “I am delighted to have been selected to be as the Liberal Democrat candidate for my local area. Windsor is at the heart of Boris Johnson’s crumbling Blue Wall which the Conservatives have taken for granted.”

Leader of the Liberal Democrats Ed Davey MP said: “Windsor is a winnable Blue Wall seat, and it will clearly be a two-horse race between a committed local Liberal Democrat team, and an out-of-touch Conservative party led by Boris Johnson.”
