Here’s some free things to do in Slough and Windsor over the festive season.

Five things to do in Slough

Christmas lights in the town centre

Slough town centre kicked off the festive season with a Christmas light switch on last month, so why not take a trip to the Queensmere Observatory and admire the pretty lit up present and angel wings outside when the sun goes down. The creation was inspired and designed by Clarissa Parker of the Slough town Centre BID.

Baylis Park and Memorial

Baylis Park is the most historic parks in Slough, which, along with the Godolphin Recreation Ground, was part of the estate of Baylis House. The Council is currently applying for a Heritage Lottery Fund grant to restore the park, its pond and walled gardens. The park is open 24 hours a day.

Tech camp at Chalvey Community Hub

If you’re looking to keep the kids entertained over Christmas and New Year then head down to Chalvey Community Hub for some free class.

Open to children aged eight to 16, sign your young ones up for educational face to face tech Christmas camps with a hot meal.

They’ll be a range of classes including coding, game design and app development. It runs from December 29 to January 3 at Chalvey Community Hub, on Ladbrooke Road, from 9am until 3pm.

Upton Court Park

Upton Court Park is Slough’s largest park located at the heart of a modern bustling town. Facilities include six football pitches, changing facilities, landscaped parkland, woodland areas, play areas. And families can enjoy a relaxing streamside walk. The park can be accessed from Upton Park Road, which is a short distance from the main A4 London Road.

Langley Country Park

This park is rated the second out of 13 things to do in Slough on TripAdvisor, with reviewers raving about it being a “beautiful area”. One person on the popular site described it as “well kept, the children really loved it and was able to explore and see all the flowers and have a run around”.

 

Five things to do in Windsor

Windsor Royal Station

Take a trip down to Windsor Royal Station, which offers great shopping and eating in the heart of Windsor. Located opposite Windsor Castle in the grade II listed Victoria Railway Station, visitors can enjoy browsing over 40 shops, cafes and restaurants.  With its original features, including Jubilee Arch, the cobbled stones and Queen Victoria’s waiting room, it’s one to visit over the festive season.

After a successful Christmas lights switch on, Windsor’s spectacular displays across the town has got residents into the festive spirit this month. And Windsor Castle is treated to a projection of stunning historic images for everyone to enjoy.

Walk along the River Thames

Stroll along the River Thames and explore the picturesque views of Windsor, and if you’re feeling like a long walk head across The Eton Walkway to see the sights of Eton. Or check out all the boats setting off from Bateaux Windsor Bording Point.

Diamond Jubilee Fountain

Listed in the top 15 things to do in Windsor on TripAdvisor, the Diamond Jubilee Fountain was described by one reviewer as a “great addition” to the town. Located on Goswell Road, another TripAdvisor user said it’s a romantic spot, especially when it’s lit up at night.

The Long Walk

Take in the idyllic views of Windsor Great Park and enjoy a day walking down the Long Walk. Lined with trees, this pathway stretches towards Windsor Castle.
