An East Lancashire restaurant has decided to spread some Christmas cheer this year by hosting their very own outdoor festive market event in giant tipis.

The Firepit Restaurant in Rawtenstall is behind the event, which the owners describe as a “month-long Christmas party in a tent”.

It officially kicks off on next Wednesday (1 December) and will run all the way up until the New Year, culminating in a New Year’s Eve grand finale party.

Three giant tipi tents are currently being erected outside their building which is located on Station House Road.

Andrew Novak, one of The Firepit Restaurant’s owners, said this is the first time he has organised something like this but thought it was necessary after the pandemic.

He said: “We talked about it for a few years.

“After the tough year people have had we decided to actually follow through with it this year and make it a good one for everyone.

“We wanted this Christmas to be as good as it can possibly be”.

The tipis will be open seven days a week from Wednesday and will serving a full range of alcoholic drinks, mulled wine, Bratwurst and much more.

Inside the tent will be a wood burning firepit to warm your hands over.

Live music will be also played every Friday and Saturday so you can really feel like you are at a party.

Although the tipis appear small, they can actually hold up to 200 people.

Mr Novak said the Firepit Christmas markets can give people that “festive feel without having to travel to the city centre”.

He added: “They just feel like Christmas to me. They will be filled with fairy lights and smell like mulled wine.

“They’re like a Christmas party in a tent which you can enjoy for the whole of December”.

There’s something for little ones too, as Santa will be setting up camp in the tipi too – there will even be some real reindeer.

Tickets for this will be £10 a child and booking slots start from 12pm on 12 December.

Eager to support local business, independent sellers will also be invited to the market so customers can browse their selection of products and support them in their Christmas shopping.

If this wasn’t enough, the Firepit Christmas markets have a grand finale planned for New Year’s Eve.

They will be hosting a ‘glitter party’ at the tipis and will have entertainment both inside the building and will also have bands outside.

Tickets will be £20 each and more details will be announced closer to the time.
