Squash courts building to be converted into a children’s play area at De Vere Beaumont Estate, Burfield Road, Old Windsor, Windsor (20/03328/FULL).

The De Vere Beaumont Estate, which is a hotel, conference, and events venue on the outskirts of Old Windsor, will see its squash courts building transformed into a children’s play area with a small café for hotel guests to enjoy.

A small single-storey extension to the south-west will add an improved entrance and better access, and provide space to include a small café, with a servery and wash-up facility, providing snacks and drinks for families to enjoy the activity centre.

Since becoming a hotel in 2008, it has attracted a much more varied clientele, including families, wedding guests, and events attendees. As such, the demand for these leisure facilities has waned significantly, with both the building and outdoor courts now left unused.

Before these plans were approved, the estate had no indoor facilities that are entirely family-focused.

The conversion will include bubble domed windows and a giant slide for the children to enjoy.

Clashes over plans to construct a café with outdoor seating in the greenbelt at land to the west of Ferry Lane opposite Nos 36 and 38 Ferry Lane, Wraysbury, Staines (21/01278/FULL).

Residents were torn over now rejected plans to build a café with an outdoor seating area in the greenbelt.

Developers argued the area “overwhelmingly needs” a café, which they argue outweighs the harm to the greenbelt.

A petition, which several locals signed, was created in support of the plans. However, a wave of nearby residents objected to the scheme.

The high risk of flooding, an increase in traffic, and the risk of the area being littered with garbage from the café triggered residents to urge planning officers to refuse the plans.

One resident wrote: “This development is not necessary and would potentially cause intolerable traffic congestion in an area with an unacceptable volume already. There are currently 50-60 truck movements per hour in and out of the FCC site and any additional traffic would exacerbate an already dangerous situation in Hythe End Rd., and Feathers Lane.”

Royal Borough planning officers agreed with the objectors and refused the scheme as they believed a café does not outweigh the harm and the flooding risks were too high.

Demolition of the existing two-storey dwelling and construction of a two-storey dwelling to create two flats at 80, Faraday Road, Slough (P/12654/009).

Planning permission was granted in 2007 for the conversion of an existing home into two flats and the erection of an attached building with another two flats.

However, during the construction phase, when undertaking works to the existing building, substantial part of the structure collapsed resulting in damage to parts of the home.

Due to health and safety reasons, it was deemed necessary to erect a replacement two-story building to match the existing home.

Slough planning officers gave the new plans the go-ahead.
