THE Landing car park in Maidenhead town centre will be closed on Halloween as the major regeneration scheme gets underway.

The temporary car park off Queen Street will be shut to motorists on Sunday, October 31.

Developers HUB of the Landing scheme asked for this space to be vacated to start the next stage of the major town centre regeneration.

Cllr David Cannon, cabinet member for public protection and parking, said: “We’ve used it in the meantime to provide a few extra short stay spaces for the town centre.

“With mechanical diggers now on-site, developer HUB has asked for the site to be vacated, heralding the start of construction on this much-needed scheme and major investment for the borough.

“Motorists are still welcome to use the other existing car parks in Maidenhead, including Grove Road and West Street, which together have sufficient available spaces for additional vehicles.”

The Landing scheme involves building 429 flats by 2024, with 123 apartments to be built as the first phase by 2023.

The 3.5-acre development site will also come with a new office building, car parking, retail, and new public space.

It has been a rocky start for the developers since plans were given the go-ahead back in 2019 where HUB secured the remaining land from property owners following a public inquiry to progress with the scheme.

The major redevelopment now looks on track with diggers seen on-site to start the construction of the flats.
