A NEW nightclub in the heart of Windsor faces backlash from police and residents over plans for late opening hours.

An application for the premises known as Labyrinth in unit 15a, Windsor Royal Station, which used to host Vanilla nightclub, will be considered by councillors on the licensing sub-committee.

The applicants, Epic Bars and Clubs Berkshire Ltd, want to open the late-night venue Monday to Sunday 11pm to 3:30am the following morning, as well as serve booze, and play music, and indoor films from 11am to 3am.

They also want to extend their opening hours by one hour on New Year’s Eve and New Year’s Day.

But objections made by Thames Valley Police (TVP) and residents triggered a sub-committee hearing, which will take place on Wednesday, October 6.

Windsor resident Nicci Loveridge said the elderly living in nearby Bridgewater Terrace have been living through “hell” and cannot open their windows in the evening due to the drunken rowdy people coming out of bars and nightclubs, fearing this will add on to it.

She wrote: “With the later opening hours this would mean we would be subjected to even later weekend torture. I’m sure the owners of the clubs wouldn’t like it on their doorsteps.

“I speak on behalf of all the residents of Bridgewater, we don’t want any late opening hours. We don’t want our elderly being scared to walk their dogs at 7am in the morning.

“We would prefer much earlier hours so we can get some rest. This would also allow people who work late night shifts to come home and feel safe, not have screaming drunks or partying going.”

TVP wanted the premises to close at 2am on Monday to Thursdays and 2:30am on Friday and Saturdays instead – but was rejected by the applicants.

They say they want to be equal with their competitors such as Atik in terms of opening times and are “confident” the measures the nightclub has in place, as well as their staff, will ensure things will run smoothly.

However, other conditions requested by TVP such as all off-sale alcohol to be sealed containers and last entry to be one hour before the sale of booze hours end was accepted by the nightclub owners.
