Converting offices into 30 new flats at Berkshire House, 39-51 High Street, Ascot (21/02260/CLASSO).

Plans were blocked by officers for developers to transform a three-storey commercial building, which was built in the 1960s, into apartments.

The proposed development would have created 21 one-beds, two-bedroom flats, as well as 20 allocated car parking spaces.

The site will also have 30 cycle parking spaces.

One resident objected to the scheme on the grounds of parking, saying: “This number is totally inadequate as every flat will need at least one space and then for additional cars, it will mean that they will be competing with the local residents of Course Road for spaces that we struggle to find on a daily basis.

“This will then lead to illegal parking and blocking of the entrance and exit to the No Through road that provides the entrance and exit to the development, the shops, and businesses and the residents of Course Road.”

But the plans were rejected on the grounds the flats did not comply with the nationally described space standards and a lack of information if the apartments will create noise and block sunlight to neighbours.

Flats to be built on a spot of land at rear 11, 15, and 17 Yew Tree Road, Slough (P/13519/007).

Planning officers gave the go-ahead for developers to build 12 flats on a small bit of land, compromising one studio flat, three three-beds with private gardens, four one-beds, and four two-bedroom apartments.

The building will be 2.5-storeys high, and 20 car parking spaces will be included.

Nearby residents objected to the scheme, fearing overlooking, loss of trees, and an overspill of parking will impact their day-to-day lives.

One resident wrote: “It is our opinion that the over bulk scale and mass is incongruous with the local area. Being the tallest of its kind in the area and will adversely affect the aesthetics and feel of the local area.

“As a previously open land, the current site provides views over to Lascelles park for all properties on Upton road and the proposed design would block these significantly.

“To wit, access via Harewood place will receive significantly more pedestrian and vehicular traffic. Changing the character of currently a quiet cul-de-sac occupied by single storey homes for the elderly”
