A DEVELOPER’S commitment to open space and affordable housing could jeopardize their plans to build 80 homes near Maidenhead town centre.

New houses and 32 flats could be built on land to the south of 19 to 20 and open space to the south of Ray Mill Road East.

Councillors on the Maidenhead development management committee will convene on Wednesday, August 18 to consider this application.

The scheme will have a mix of detached, semi-detached, and terrace houses, as well as flats compromising 16 two-beds and 16 one-bedrooms.

The Royal Borough of Windsor and Maidenhead Council require developers to propose 30 per cent affordable homes in major plans. The developers have proposed just under 50 per cent.

While the developer says they will deliver affordable homes and enhance the remaining open space, they have not signed and secured a legal agreement committing to this.

This caused planning officers to recommend refusal to panel members.

Over 160 car parking spaces and 32 cycle parking spaces for the flats are also proposed.

A plan of this magnitude will need 172 car parking spaces – but given the site is a 15-minute walk from Maidenhead town centre, planning officers believe residents can get public transport and there won’t be an overspill.
