THERE have been 125 new coronavirus cases confirmed in Swindon within 24 hours.

During the last seven days, 738 positive Covid-19 tests have been recorded around the borough, which is 26 more than the previous week.

As of July 30, Swindon's infection rate was 314.6 cases per 100,000 population.

Eight more patients with Covid ysmptoms were admitted to Great Western Hospital. Thereh have been 45 admissions in the last seven days, which is 10 more than the week before.

On August 3, a further 86 people in Swindon had their first dose of the coronavirus vaccine and 1,291 had their second.

The government said a further 119 people had died within 28 days of testing positive for Covid-19 as of Wednesday, bringing the UK total to 130,000.

Separate figures published by the Office for National Statistics show there have now been 155,000 deaths registered in the UK where Covid-19 was mentioned on the death certificate.

As of 9am on Wednesday, there had been a further 29,312 lab-confirmed Covid-19 cases in the UK, the government said.
