A SWINDON charity which supports people who have suffered strokes sent its clients on a fun day out thanks to a generous donation.

The McCarthy Stone Foundation gave Swindon Stroke Support £500 which helped fund a group tip to the Cotswold Wildlife Park.

The money covered entrance fees, lunch, wheelchair-accessible transport and mobility scooter hire.

Established in 1981, Swindon Stroke Support is a registered charity run entirely by volunteers which offers a weekly social support group for stroke survivors and their carers which includes a varied programme of social activities, day trips and holidays.

Treasurer Gerald Stephenson said: “The pandemic has meant that we haven’t been able to run our groups for nearly 15 months, so we’re looking forward to getting everyone back together again. We’re so grateful for this kind donation from the McCarthy Stone Foundation, which helped group members get together and enjoy a fun outing after we’ve all experienced a really tough year.”

The McCarthy Stone Foundation is the independent, registered charity of developer and manager of retirement communities McCarthy Stone, which will soon be opening its new Gilbert Place development on Lowry Way in Swindon.

Graeme Marsh from the McCarthy Stone Foundation said: “We want to support organisations that really make an impact on people’s lives. Swindon Stroke Support is an important pillar of the local community, and its team of volunteers continues to work tirelessly to support stroke survivors, their families, and friends in and around the Swindon area. We wish Swindon Stroke Support every success for the future.”
