WITH all the excitement of Tom Dean winning two gold medals, you might think swimming was Berkshire's most popular Olympic sport.

But in actual fact, trampolining has been named as the most popular in the county, according to new research.

New data from Better.org has revealed which Olympic sports are the most popular across the UK, with Berkshire being big lovers of Trampolining, mountain biking and skateboarding.

The ranking looks outside of the classic ‘big four’ sports of football, boxing, golf, and rugby, seeking instead to explore the less mainstream sports associated with the huge international sporting tournament being held in Japan this year.

With an average of 2,400 monthly searches, trampolining was Berkshire's most popular sport, followed by skateboarding with 1,900 searches and mountain biking (1,600 searches).

Other popular sports include tennis, fencing and basketball.

So far in 2021, originating from the UK, there has been a total average monthly search volume of 3.19 million for the 46 sports on show at the Games.

In June, the Wikipedia pages of all the sports were viewed a total of 1.35 million times.

Across the UK, trampolining, mountain biking and skateboarding were also the most popular in terms of search volume, garnering 201,000 views, 165,000 views, and 165,000 views in the year to date, respectively.

Team GB has done fantastically well at this year's Tokyo games, with 13 gold medals, 15 silver, 13 bronze placing fifth in the medal table.

Maidenhead also features on the map with swimmer Tom Dean taking home two gold medals.
