IT’S decision time for major revamp plans of a “tired and outdated” office building in Maidenhead town centre.

Applicant Legal and General want to transform the four-storey Star House in Grenfell Road, which used to home mobile network giants Three UK, into an “attractive and sustainable” office complex.

Three UK was in the office building for 17 years – but moved out in March after their lease ended and moved into a “combined office space” in Reading.

Councillors on the Royal Borough Development Management panel, who will next meet on Wednesday, July 21, have been recommended to approve the plans by officers.

The developers pledged to make the refurbished building to produce 39 per cent less carbon emissions by implementing energy efficiency measures and low and zero carbon technologies.

This will include a 5,000sq ft rooftop of solar panels and air source heat pump technologies.

A café is also proposed facing King Street, the installation of three rooftop pavilions and terraces, and a two-storey extension to the southside to create a new entrance lobby is proposed.

The proposed extensions to the building would add 1,457sqm of floorspace.

The basement car parking, which has 199 spaces, will be retained but will be reduced to 176 spaces – with 18 of those having electric charging points and a further nine being disabled bays.

Over 150 secure cycle parking spaces are also included.

If approved, this scheme will reportedly generate 52 jobs, generate £10.3 million annually into the economy, and contribute £1.3 million in business rates each year.
