Police have arrested several suspected illegal immigrants who were discovered inside a lorry near Maidenhead this week.

On Monday, at around 9.15pm, police were called to the A4 Bath Road, near the A404(M) roundabout, following reports of people inside a lorry which was pulled over on the side of the road.

After arriving on the scene, police arrested seven people on suspicion of entering the United Kingdom without leave.

Thames Valley Police have now passed the case onto immigration officials.

The following morning police were still on the scene, with five police cars present and a fire engine also parked nearby.

Officers could be seen looking around in the back of the lorry.

A police spokeswoman said: “Thames Valley Police was called to reports of people in a lorry that was parked in a lay-by on the A4 Bath Road, Maidenhead at around 9.15pm on Monday.

“Seven people were discovered and arrested on suspicion of entering the United Kingdom without leave. This has now been transferred to immigration officials.”
