Thames Valley Police will be carrying out an operation with both uniformed and undercover officers.

From June 25, the officers will be carrying out local patrols in order to identify people who may be displaying signs of predatory behaviour.

The aim of the project is to prevent sexual offending by taking a proactive approach and targeting potential offenders.

If undercover officers identify individuals who may be displaying signs of predatory behaviour, such as sexual harassment, loitering or inappropriate touching, then uniformed officers will intervene.

Police have said these officers will take positive action to discourage the behaviour, for example engaging the individual in conversation, explaining to them the behaviour they may be showing and in extreme cases potential arrest.

Inspector Mike Darrah, based at Maidenhead police station, said: “I am pleased that we are able to roll out Project Vigilant in Windsor and Maidenhead.

“Keeping our communities safe is of the utmost importance and as lockdown restrictions are lifted we are going to see more people out and about in our local areas.

“The aim of carrying out these patrols is to make Windsor and Maidenhead LPA a hostile place for potential offenders.

“The force works hard to bring those that do offend to justice and safeguard victims.”

If you see someone acting suspiciously, please call Thames Valley Police on 101 or 999 in an emergency or approach an officer.
