FROM escaped baboons to a 'death trap' toboggan run - Windsor Safari Park has been remembered in the most interesting ways.

Readers have shared their memories of Berkshire's lost safari park after we published a story showing archive photos from its heyday.

Anyone lucky enough to visit the wildlife park in Windsor would have been able to witness dolphins jumping into the sky or see lions prowling in their enclosure.

But not everyone enjoyed Winsdor Safari Park, opposing the way animals were kept in cages.

Gary Bishop said: "It was great there. I remember the toboggan run they put in not long before it closed, b***** death trap. "

Jo Darren Loddy: "Loved it there, the baboons would always welcome us by ripping off a window wiper bless them."

George Forth recalled how giraffes had charged at him one time.

He said: "I loved the butterfly tent, and the really cool trolley slide, and being run at by two giraffes who only noticed at the last second and leaned over about 45° as they changed direction."

Michelle Taggart: "Yes I loved going there my favourite place when growing up I wish it was still there so I could bring my kids there."

However, James Woodley shared mixed views on the place. He said: "A shame that they had to sell up and pass on the animals to other sanctuary places. The only thing I objected to was the dolphins and killer whale as they need more space like an ocean."

Claire Bryant said: "We used to protest on the green patch outside."

Emma Bateman echoed this and said: "I remember tooting the horn every time I drove past in support of the protestors who were demanding the Safari Park ‘free the whale’ that was imprisoned and used to entertain the public on a daily basis. Barbaric."

Becky Fredericksen simply said: "Good riddance."
