GOOGLE is using location data gathered from phones to help public health officials understand how people’s movements have changed in response to the global coronavirus pandemic.

The reports use data from people who have opted in to storing their location history with Google.

The Covid-19 Community Mobility Report dated May 8, looks at data between Saturday, March 27, and Saturday, May 8, 2021.

The data shows there has been a rise in the number of people visiting parks.

This area has seen a 7 per cent rise compared to the baseline.

More people are also visiting residential areas (a 9 per cent increase).

Fewer people are visiting retail and recreation areas including shops and restaurants.

This area has seen a 44 per cent decrease compared to the baseline.

60 per cent fewer people are also using public transport such as buses and trains to travel.

The data comes as people aged 38 and 39 are expected to be invited to book their Covid vaccinations from tomorrow morning in England, according to NHS sources.

It comes just 12 days after people over the age of 40 were told they could book their first Covid vaccine jab.

From Thursday (May 13), People aged 38 and 39 will be receiving texts from NHS England informing them that they are allowed to book an appointment, according to reports.
