On Saturday Reading look to put the shock defeat to Wycombe Wanderers behind them and return to winning ways against relegation-threatened Rotherham United.

Below we look at everything you need to know ahead of the match with the Millers.

Recent Form

Currently 22nd in the league, a win against the Reading could lift Paul Warne’s side above Birmingham City and out of the bottom three.

In addition to this the side also have two games in hand on the two sides directly above them, and still one game in hand on the two teams below them.

On a run of four straight defeats, the Yorkshire-side cannot help but feel slightly hard done by after putting in respectable performances yet losing by a single goal in each.

With their next two matches being the out of form Royals and the side directly below them, Sheffield Wednesday, now appears to be a chance for the side to put a string of results together.

Last time out against Veljko Paunovic’s side the hosts won 3-0 at the Madejski, with goals from Yakou Meite and Lucas Joao.

Overall Reading have won 22 of the 48 meetings, losing 10.

The first meeting between the two sides was in Division Three in 1969, a 4-1 win for Rotherham.

Reading have beaten Saturday’s hosts at their own ground just once in the last 20 years, a 1-2 win in 2016 as Paul McShane’s late goal kept the play-off charge alive.

Alongside the win five years ago, three draws and three defeats makes pretty depressing viewing for trips to Millmoor and now the New York Stadium since 2001.

Team News

The hosts will be without central defenders Michael Ihiekwe and Richard Wood through suspension and injury respectively.

Meanwhile Reading could see fan favourite Meite return from injury to play a part.

Full-backs Andy Yiadom and Omar Richards both started on the bench on Tuesday, and may return to add more attacking threat from the wide positions.

Key Player

Centre-forward Michael Smith tops the scoring charts and assist charts for Warne’s side with seven goals and three assists.

Similarly central midfielder Matt Crooks has contributed six goals and two assists from just behind the traditional number nine.

Scoring goals has not been the issue for the side, with only Huddersfield Town scoring more in the bottom six.

However only six sides have conceded more goals than Rotherham’s 41 so far this season.

Fine margins are the story of Rotherham’s season, having lost 12 of their 17 defeats by just a single goal.

Odds

According to Sky Bet at the time of writing the hosts are 9/5 for a first win in five, whilst Reading are 29/20 to get their first win in three. A draw is 12/5.
