THAMES Valley Police have revealed how many Covid-19 fixed penalty notices (FPN) have been issued to rule-breakers in the Royal Borough since the start of January.

At a Windsor Town Forum on Wednesday (January 27), Inspector Tracey Croucher said between January 6 and 26, they issued 45 FPNs across Windsor and Maidenhead.

She also revealed the police attended a total of 224 Covid-related incidents between that time such as house parties, gatherings, quarantining, masks not being worn, etc.

Insp Croucher said: “People should know the rules by now. It [the pandemic] has been going on long enough.

“I know there are complexities around the rules, and we won’t enforce anything that’s woolly.

“If it’s a blatant breach of the legislation, not the guidance, then we will act on that.”

She also said gatherings at the Long Walk in Windsor have become ‘a bit of a nightmare’ where the police have seen groupings with no social distancing and the car park rammed, especially on a Sunday.

It was heard the Crown Estate and local residents have asked for more patrols – which Insp Croucher assured councillors they are carrying out.

She also said Boulters Lock and Raymill Island in Maidenhead have been hotspot areas for gatherings.

Councillor Amy Tisi (Liberal Democrat: Clewer East) said she saw an anti-lockdown sticker fly-posted on a bin in Windsor and saw the same sticker reported in local newspapers such as the Bucks Free Press.

She asked if this has come to the police’s attention and what should residents do if they see anti-Covid propaganda.

Insp Croucher replied they would like to know if anyone sees any anti-police or anti-government stickers plastered around the town.

She said: “Everyone is entitled to express their opinion. Absolutely no problem and just because I may not agree with an opinion doesn’t mean that people don’t have the right to express that opinion.

“However, we do need to be just a little bit careful with the anti-police stuff and make sure it’s not some sort of fringe group going on there or anything more sinister.”

Councillor David Cannon (Conservative: Datchet, Horton, & Wraysbury), lead member for parking and public protection, added if anyone sees any illegal fly-posting of stickers or anything similar to report it via the council’s website and anyone caught will be prosecuted with an FPN.
