Thames Valley Police has confirmed that ‘it is completely safe to walk your dogs in Windsor & Maidenhead’ following rumours of alleged dognapping in the area.

This comes after TVP were made aware of a Facebook post that a local group had published, explaining that there were rumours of an assault and an attempted dog theft at Holyport Green in Maidenhead on the morning of Monday, January 18.

And even though no-one had reported the rumoured offence or revealed that they were subjected to a crime, TVP were made aware of the post from several concerned residents.

In their Facebook post, TVP Windsor and Maidenhead said: “This afternoon [January 19], PCSO Wingrove & PCSO Welnitz carried out enquires regarding the information in the post to verify the account and locate any potential victim.

“The person who made the original post did so in good faith having been told about it from a friend, and wanted to pass the information on to the local community.

“We are completely confident this was well-meaning and there was no intention to cause locals any distress.

“We want to reassure residents that it is completely safe to walk your dogs in Windsor & Maidenhead.”
