Tablet computers that can be used by children learning at home were delivered to two schools in Datchet on Monday - after the village's own charities sprang into action.

Datchet United Charities is actually a combination of nine local charities and exists to offer help to those who are in need in the village.

It was contacted about the needs of local pupils who are having to work from home without access to proper computer equipment.

Head teachers of Datchet St Mary’s Primary Academy and Churchmead School Nicola Green and Chris Tomes identified 27 local families.

The tablet computers were delivered to both schools and will soon be sent out to the pupils.

Father Darcy Chesterfield-Terry, vicar for Datchet and chair of the charity, said: "It’s wonderful to be able to offer this help in such a trying time, I’m proud of the speed with which the charity was able to act and offer this practical support. Thank-you to Chris and Nicola for their involvement in making this happen."

Chris Tomes said: "I am delighted that Datchet United Charities have been able to offer their help to our local school community. This will make a huge difference for students accessing their lessons from home."
