A new 'pet adoption' platform aiming to find homes for Britain's thousands of homeless cats and dogs is working with the rescue centre in Old Windsor.

Animates is the first digital platform to connect pet-parents with the nation’s animal shelters across the country.

Luke Fribbens, founder and CEO of Animates, said: "The large majority of pet owners choose to purchase via breeders, dealers and online sellers, meaning that many of the 250,000 animals that are handed in to shelters each year remain homeless.

"Animates wants to change this damaging buying pattern by making it easier for people to put rescue first."

Animates is working with 323 animal shelters across the country including the Battersea centre at Old Windsor - which is personally supported by the Duchess of Cornwall.

The platform is free to sign-up to and works by hosting each shelter’s furry residents on the intuitive website. People searching for a new family member can browse by species, breed, and location, before viewing each animal’s personal profile.

Here they can learn useful information, from age and level of training, to how active they are and whether they get on with cats (and vice versa!). The site already has over 1,000 cats and dogs 'on its books'.

The Animates platform also supports shelters by allowing users to make a direct donation - of which 100 per cent goes straight to the shelter. Learn more about Animates on https://animates.pet/
