A dedicated father and daughter have joined the fight against global warming by setting up a website to help people make their homes eco-friendly.

Matthew Hemming, 60, who lives in Heathfield Road, Taplow and daughter Cecile, 23, of King Edwards Road, Winkfield Row both came to similar conclusions separately from each other about the need to make a contribution.

Cecile gained increasing awareness of the climate crisis at university, while Matthew had begun to notice just how much energy and carbon emission living in a house and going on journeys was using.

Cecile said: "During weekends at home and holidays from university we had lengthy discussions about what we could do to help, so our website Go Eco was born."

Homes in the UK account for around 15 per cent of the country's total greenhouse gas emissions.

Emissions reductions from the UK's homes have stalled, as energy use in homes increased between 2016 and 2017. Over four million home overheat and the average UK water consumption is one of the highest in Europe.

Cecile said: "We have the needed technology to make homes more sustainable but current government policies and standards are failing to drive the needed change. We are determined to show communities that going green at home really can push the needle on climate change and equip us with homes suitable for the future."

Cecile and Matthew's site aims to teach people about eco-friendly products such as heat pumps, greywater systems and meal kits.

Their website offers 'what to buy' suggestions which recommend the best products on the market. The site also shows how this can be made affordable through available government grants and contains the latest eco-news.

You can find Go Eco at www.goeco.co.uk and follow Matthew and Cecile on Instagram, Twitter and Facebook, @wearegoeco or Go Eco on Linkedin.

They hope to make the website into a profitable enterprise eventually as companies making products they recommend come to trust and use them.
