THE environment agency (EA) has “no current concerns” on flooding in the Royal Borough despite an alert warning

Yellow weather warnings have been issued, with forecasts of showers as well as snow and ice expected for the next few days.

Councillor David Cannon (Conservative: Datchet, Horton, and Wraysbury), lead member for parking and public protection, said he has been in contact with the EA and emergency planning officers at the council.

In their recent talks, he said the EA have “no current concerns” about the Royal Borough of Windsor and Maidenhead (RBWM) or with the impact of waters currently upstream.

“The forecasts over the next few days is for showers and that again does not raise concerns.”

The Jubilee River – which protects approximately 3,200 homes in Maidenhead, Windsor, Eton, and Cookham – is currently undergoing emergency repairs on a structure at Black Potts Weir after water scouring, damage caused by water erosion, was discovered.

Despite the delay on the completion date of the repairs until March 2021, the Jubilee River has reopened as a flood relief channel operating at 75 per cent capacity.

This in conjunction with lock gates and weirs, is being used to manage the flow of the water in the River Thames within RBWM.

The EA said they are ‘operating around the clock’ to monitor rainfall and river levels.
