As of yesterday, Bracknell Forest was placed under Tier 2 'High' restrictions as the four-week national lockdown came to an end.

As part of the return to the "three-tier" system, new travel rules will be introduced with non-essential travel not permitted.

We've looked at what the latest Government guidance, published on November 30, says on travel for residents in the region.

You'll be able to travel within your area for the following reasons:

  • travelling to venues that are open
  • for work
  • for education
  • to access voluntary, charitable or youth service
  • because of caring responsibilities
  • for moving home
  • to visit your support bubble
  • to receive medical treatment

Can I travel out of a Tier 3 area?

Some residents have been left confused after reading how people from Tier 3 areas would come and visit areas such as Ascot which is under Tier 2.

To avoid this confusion, the government guidance states that you should avoid travelling outside your area and reduce the number of journeys made where possible.

So it's probably not the best idea to travel to a Tier 3 area and visa versa.

The guidance also states that you should avoid overnight stays, and travel except for the following purposes:

  • for work
  • for education
  • to access voluntary, charitable or youth services
  • because of caring responsibilities
  • for moving home
  • to visit your support bubble
  • for a medical appointment or treatment
  • Where necessary, you can travel through other areas as part of a longer journey.

A statement on the Government website said: "If you live in a Tier 3 area, you must continue to follow Tier 3 rules when you travel to a Tier 1 or Tier 2 area.

"You must not stay with anyone you do not live with elsewhere in the UK or visit their home, unless you share a support bubble."
