The man behind Windsor's newest retirement village got quite a surprise when he asked residents if there was anything he could do to make life better for them.

The answer was simple - 'get us some single men'.

Robin Hughes is the CEO of the company that built Castle View retirement village in Helston Lane.

He lives in the town and regularly visits.

Village manager Lisa Fisher said: "We listen very carefully to what our residents want - it’s their community, after all. At a recent one-to-one meeting with the residents, Robin Hughes asked everyone if there was anything he could do to help make life even better for them.”

Back came the reply: "We need more men."

A recent survey revealed that after the age of 65 women make up 55 per cent of the population.

Robin admits that there is not much he can do about that.

He said: "There’s not much we can do about demographics and everyone is welcome here. But on behalf of our lovely ladies it would be great if we could attract a couple of single men."

Castle View has remained Covid-free throughout the Coronavirus lockdown, after residents and managers agreed to socially distance themselves as a whole community ahead of Government guidelines.

Resident Jill Holmes, 86, said: “There was a great atmosphere here and a real Dunkirk spirit about the place. Of course, we were fully aware of what was happening elsewhere around the world and the hardships many were suffering, and we all felt extremely fortunate to be in such a safe and caring community.”
