WINDSOR’S MP Adam Afriyie has backed “shining star” Home Secretary Priti Patel following an inquiry into bullying.

The Conservative parliamentarian voiced his support for Ms Patel after a damning report concluded she “has not consistently met the high standards required by the ministerial code of treating her civil servants with consideration and respect”.

The report added Ms Patel cited examples of “shouting and swearing”.

In a tweet, Adam Afriyie said: “Priti Patel is a shining star in Government.

“We expect politicians to get things done for our country and my friend Priti does not disappoint: a strong woman with personal warmth in private, with a dogged determination to fight crime and sort out immigration in office.”

Prime Minister Boris Johnson judged Ms Patel did not breach the ministerial code and has backed the Home Secretary saying she has his “full confidence”.

Following the PM’s support, Mr Johnson’s adviser on the ministerial code, Sir Alex Allan – who found Ms Patel’s behaviour breached the code – resigned.

Ms Patel has released a statement apologising that her actions have upset people in the past.

The inquiry was launched in March by the Prime Minister, following the resignation of the Home Office’s top civil servant, Sir Philip Rutnam, who alleged Ms Patel “created fear” in the workplace.
