THE waste collection fiasco in the Royal Borough could be all cleaned up as councillors heard issues have been reduced ‘significantly’.

Since swapping back to weekly bin collections with revised routes in August, the council’s waste contractors, Serco, faced an avalanche of backlash from residents and councillors over missed bin collections.

Naomi Markham, the Royal Borough’s waste strategy manager, told members of the Maidenhead town forum scheduled dates, including some dates on a Saturday, are now being fully completed where the issues have mainly been resolved.

She said: “There are always missed bins. Collecting from 64,000 properties in a week, that’s the nature of waste service. The collections are running much more smoothly since we moved to the six-day a week scheduled collection.”

Councillor David Coppinger (Conservative: Bray), the lead member for waste, said Naomi and her team ‘worked hard’ to resolve the waste issue where he said, “the integrated Serco team are very much on side with us now”.

Naomi Markham urged residents to keep reporting missed bins if not collected within two working days of their scheduled collection day via the ‘report it’ button on the council’s website or ring the customer service centre and select waste option for those without internet access.

The meeting took place via Zoom on Tuesday (November 17).
