Cinderella will go to the ball.

That is the promise from Jon and Anne-Marie Woodley, co-directors of the Theatre Royal in Windsor, after the new lockdown wrecked plans to open this year's Christmas pantomime in two weeks.

It also forces this week's production of Lloyd George Knew My Father starring Felicity Kendall to end its run halfway through tonight and has halted plans for Will Young to star in the play A Thousand Clowns next week.

But there has been good news among the bad.

Jon Woodley said: "Sadly, Theatre Royal Windsor will close its doors once again after the evening performance of Lloyd George Knew My Father.

"But the show must go on. We are working hard on plans to reschedule both A Thousand Clowns starring Will Young as well as this year’s pantomime and we hope to make further announcements in the coming days.

"The culture secretary Oliver Dowden has confirmed that rehearsals can go ahead during the lockdown period, so we are aiming to be back open just as soon as possible.

"The curtain will rise once more and Cinderella shall go to the ball.”

This year's planned pantomine is Cinderella, starring everyone's favourite fox Basil Brush with Theatre Royal regulars Kevin Cruise and dame Steven Blakeley - plus 1970s movie superstar Britt Ekland.
