Changes to the days some people have their bins collected are part of a plan to improve the much criticised recent service in Windsor and Maidenhead.

Councillor David Coppinger, the Royal Borough's lead member for waste, planning and Maidenhead, said: “In order to address the waste and recycling collection issues that some residents have experienced following the move back to weekly collections, we are changing the collection day for a small number of households in the borough.

“These changes will mean that the workload is spread more evenly across the crews and across the week, the intended outcome being to reduce the number of missed collections that are happening on some days currently."

The changes will come into effect from Monday and every household whose collection day is changing will receive a letter giving details.

Councillor Coppinger said: "We have worked closely with Serco to make necessary improvements and this has resulted in a reduction in missed collections over the past few weeks and we hope that by changing the collection day for a small number of residents, we will see a further reduction in missed bins."

But he warned missed bins could never be entirely eradicated
