THE fast food joint Burger Base could move into Slough’s high street if planning officers grant permission.

The national independent chain – which was founded in 2015 – submitted an application to Slough Borough Council asking for the ground floor of an empty retail unit on 242 High Street to be converted into a restaurant and takeaway.

If approved, around 14 jobs will be created where it could operate from 7am-11pm seven days a week.

The vacant space was operated by fashion retailer Brother2Brother – but closed down a few months back.

In the design and access statement, it states retail in the area is “weak” following the coronavirus pandemic where a restaurant “would appeal to the general public and to fill an empty high street space”.

No structural changes are proposed but an extraction system will be installed to the rear of the building and the shop front will be replaced.

The statement also says if the plans are approved, it will “improve” on Slough’s street scene and “thriving economy” and will contribute to increasing footfall onto the high street.

It also states: “This proposal will improve social inclusion, and improve a town centre property that has been vacant for some months.”

The application can be viewed on the council’s planning portal with the reference code: P/02418/039.
