Pupils are not taking any chances as they look forward to next spring at Claires Court Junior Boys School.

With a long, hard winter to cope with first, they spent much of last week planting 3,000 bulbs to make sure that their grounds erupted into a riot of colour as soon as spring 2021 arrived.

The green-fingered five to 11 year olds planted a variety of crocus and snowdrop bulbs funded by the school’s Parent Teacher Association around the grounds of the school, while they learned some basic gardening skills.

Dean Richards, headteacher at the school at Ridgeway, Maidenhead, said: “We’re so pleased and thankful that our PTA was able to support this initiative, which enabled the boys to work outdoors in their bubbles. The bulb planting has brought everyone together to create something to look forward to next spring and enjoy the fabulous school grounds.”

Theo Ainsley from year 6, added: “I like planting bulbs because I can work with my friends and the teachers. I also liked being able to create brightness in the school grounds for the pupils, teachers and visitors. I love all different creatures so I was pleased to see some worms because they will turn the soil over and help the flowers grow.”

Claires Court is an independent day school for boys and girls in Maidenhead aged three to 18 year olds.
