A Maidenhead man who helped bring high speed WiFi to London's underground in time for the 2012 Olympics has been awarded an OBE in the Queen's Birthday Honours list.

Kevin Baughan, 62, was Virgin Media's Director of Technical Strategy when he pioneered the rollout of Superfast Broadband in 2008, connected TV (Tivo) in 2010 and organised the rollout of high speed WiFi on the London Underground in time for the Olympics.

He said: "Having a fixed deadline with global significance certainly focused the mind and it was such a delight when ten thousand people were joining the network every day after it opened."

When Kevin stood down from Innovate UK in 2018, he took up non-executive roles with City & Guilds and Coventry University where he enjoys encouraging the continuing development of technical skills and higher education.
