Dedworth Middle School in Windsor has broken with tradition by appointing a head girl with three deputies - and no head boy this year.
But the school's new headteacher Nicola Chandler made it clear this week she had no intention of leaving the boys out in the cold.
She said: "I know it is a bit of a break with the tradition having a head boy and head girl with a deputy each - I have broken with tradition myself by being the first female headteacher.

"But these four girls clearly shone and their desire to help fundraise for those less fortunate for themselves and their ideas to promote pupil voice across the school were hard to ignore.
"Boys are definitely not being excluded though. I hope plenty will apply next time."

Head girl Tirion Watkins and her three deputies Milly Armiger, Freya Burton and Eden Crossley have indicated that they would like to increase fundraising events with money going not just to the school but to a range of charities.
Mrs Chandler was headteacher at Windsor's Trevelyan School before taking over as executive head at Dedworth Middle.
