A leading organisation that has been enabling volunteers to 'do their bit' across the Royal Borough since 2014 has been saved from collapse thanks to a £28,000 gift from six organisations.

WAM Get Involved promotes greater community involvement across the Royal Borough through training and regular forums. But it lost its funding from the Royal Borough earlier this year.

Now Slough Council for Voluntary Service (Slough CVS) - which set up WAM six years ago - has managed to win enough vital support to keep it going from sources including National Lottery for All, the Prince Philip Trust Fund and Tesco Bags of Help.

Another contributor has been Berkshire Community Foundation (BCF), whose chief operating officer Jon Yates said: "Everyone at Berkshire Community Foundation has been amazed at the way the voluntary sector has responded to the needs of local communities and vulnerable people in this crisis.

"As a funder we feel the role Slough CVS and WAM Get Involved has played shows how important a joined up voluntary sector is to our collective welfare. The work continues and we wish you success.”

Windsor and Maidenhead Christian Trust and the Radian Housing Association were the other contributors.

*This September to December, Slough CVS is offering a range of free online courses for residents and voluntary groups.

If you have been affected by redundancy, are looking to start your volunteering journey or simply want the opportunity to up-skill, the courses offer training in social enterprise, volunteer management, fundraising from trusts and economics.
