Yet another annual fundraising charity event has had to be dropped as the Coronavirus continues to cast a pall over everyday lives.

Following the recent axing of their annual horse ride the Windsor Lions Club has now announced the postponement of its annual Swimathon, which was due to take place on Sunday, October 11 at the Leisure Centre in Stovell Road.

The event attracts teams from all over the Royal Borough including the authority's own mayor's team.

Event organiser Mike Sells says he has looked at every possible way the event could be staged but has come to the conclusion that the safety precautions that would be needed make it impossible.

He said: "A combination of stringent cleaning requirements between each team swimming, reduced capacity and the possibility of future lock-down measures made it impossible to go ahead.

"I will be in touch with the 32 teams who have already entered. The good news however is that we have already booked Windsor Leisure Centre for October 10, 2021 and hope that we can make it a bigger and better event than ever before."

During lockdown the Lions have continued to support the local community through a variety of projects such as the introduction of home testing kits for Prostate Cancer, while volunteering with Windsor Foodshare and the Driven Forward charity for the socially excluded.
