Slough's Hindu community is celebrating after Bhagyashri Sidhu was crowned Mrs India UK 2020 (Classic) last week.

Mrs India UK is a unique pioneer pageant held in the United Kingdom for British Indians and Asian married women living here. It was launched in June 2017 and has successfully completed four seasons.

Lockdown did not impede this year's event as the 300 competitors went through the various rounds and training sessions online.

By the time of the live final in London last week Bhagyashri was one of just five finalists in the 'classic' section of the competition.

She scored highest in the best catwalk, best congeniality and best fitness titles to take the crown.

Bhagyashri, 43, lives in Farnham Common and is a software test engineer with a finance company. She came to England in 2006 to work and is married to Sukhvinder. They have an eight-year-old son Areen.

She is an active campaigner to spread awareness of self-defence education to girls and has broadcasted live on social media on this subject.

She is a certified mental health first aider through her work. Through Mrs India UK, she got an opportunity to work closely with CGMT (Cameron Grant Memorial Trust) a non-profitable charity working for people suffering with mental health issues. She has actively participated in social awareness programme for CGMT by creating mental health support videos.

She is also an enthusiastic kathak dancer - one of the eight major forms of Indian classical dance.

Bhagyashri said: "I hope winning this competition will help me to continue giving something back to society."
