A road shut for emergency repair works after a storm water drain collapsed following bad weather is expected to stay closed until August 21.

Plomer Hill, which connects High Wycombe and Downley, was closed by Transport for Bucks on Thursday after heavy thunderstorms.

The bad weather appears to have caused a 27-metre stretch of storm water drain to collapse, which has affected the kerbside gulleys that connect to it.

The road has been shut between West Wycombe Road and Plomer Green Avenue so the pipework can be dug up and replaced.

Overnight on Friday/Saturday a high pressure jetter will attempt to clear the pipes so that a remote controlled video survey can be carried out in the entire storm water system up and down Plomer Hill, to check for any other problems.

For safety reasons, the road has to stay shut until Friday, August 21, although residents are allowed access.

Nick Naylor, Buckinghamshire Council cabinet member for transport, said: "Our team is working flat out to investigate the problems and do the necessary repairs, and they'll open the road as soon as it's safe to do so. My thanks to residents for bearing with us while we fix this problem."

Nick said that planned overnight surfacing work was now being carried out concurrently with the emergency pipe works during the day, while the emergency closure was in place, to minimise disruption for residents and motorists.
