Parents and pupils at Westgate School at Cippenham Lane, Slough have been praised by the head and her deputy after yesterday’s 'A' level results were released.

Michelle Cooper said: “The support afforded from parents has been critical, as we collectively navigate these unchartered territories together, and we are truly grateful for their unwavering loyalty. We wish all our current Sixth Form students the very best for the future in whatever path they decide to pursue.”

Deputy head Liam McKenna said: “Throughout the uncertainty of the 2020 summer examination series, sixth form students at The Westgate School have demonstrated incredible resilience and resolve to secure excellent grades which are truly reflective of their commitment and effort over the past two years.”

Some notable student successes include: John Moules (A*, A*, A, A) who is going to study environmental science at the University of Reading; Grace Ashley (A*, A, A) who is going to study history at the University of Oxford; Lauren Lewendon (A*, B, B) who is going to study chemistry with forensic investigation at the University of Surrey and James Goodridge (B, B, Dist.) who is going to study fashion marketing at the University of Arts, London.

*Beechwood School in Long Readings Lane, Slough is reporting 100 per cent pass rates in art, biology, business studies, chemistry, English Literature, health and social care, maths, media studies, physical education, physics, psychology and science.

Executive head Kathleen Higgins said: “With the uncertainty and anxiety that was experienced due to the exceptional Covid situation that we were all in, we are delighted that there is now so much to celebrate. A fantastic set of results, well deserved by a fantastic group of young people who have really shown what it means to be the very best that you can be.”

*Baylis Court Girls Secondary in Gloucester Avenue saw pupils achieve a 97 per cent pass rate and 73 per cent A* to C success.

During lockdown staff delivered live lessons using Microsoft TEAMS, enabling pupils to complete their courses.

Two students who stood out are Nafisah Alam who achieved history (A), PE (A), English Language and Literature (B) and Extended Project (A*) and Ilhaan Suleyman whose best grades were biology (A*),sociology (A), Extended Project (A*).
