Two major leisure centres in and around Slough have reopened today for group exercise and gym users, after being given the ‘green light’ by Prime Minister Boris Johnson.

But people hoping to enjoy a swim in the pools as well as a range of other activities will have to wait.

Langley Leisure Centre in Parlaunt Road, Langley and The Centre in Farnham Road, Slough were back in action on Monday after four months. But it was just the first part of a phased approach that will see reopening dates for more of their facilities announced over the coming weeks.

Meanwhile social distancing measures will be carefully maintained.

Leisure operator Everyone Active which runs the centres in partnership with Slough Borough Council has streamed live classes across its social medial pages during lockdown, while donating half the cost of membership to the National Emergencies Trust when customers continued to pay.

Luke Routhorn, Everyone Active’s contract manager, said: “We’ve been overwhelmed with the support we have received from customers during these unprecedented times, and we’re so grateful. Like many other industries, leisure has been greatly affected by the lockdown."

Michael Shepherd, Leisure Development and Client Manager for Slough Borough Council said: “We look forward to welcoming everyone back and thanking them for their patience.

“It’s tremendous to hear that during these unprecedented times Everyone Active members, including those from Slough have been so generous with their donations to the National Emergencies Trust."
