WORK has officially started on a six-figure transformation of a play park in Ulverston.

Construction work has begun on a £120,000 state-of-the-art renovation of Lightburn Play area after a three month delay.

The existing Lightburn Park playground was set to close after the Easter holidays for the duration of the installation, with a soft opening planned for the end of May.

However, due to the Covid-19 pandemic, the project was put on hold and delayed from its original construction start date of April 14.

Staff have reopened all 61 of South Lakeland District Council’s playgrounds after being given the green-light to reopen from Government.

Playgrounds and outdoor gyms have been closed since March due to being deemed a higher risk places for people to pass on Covid.
