A peaceful Black Lives Matter protest will take place in Marlow tomorrow morning (June 6).

This comes after George Floyd, an African-American, died in Minneapolis on May 25, after Derek Chauvin, a white police officer, knelt on Floyd's neck for just over eight minutes.

Following Mr Floyd’s death, several riots have taken place across the United States.

The protest in Marlow will take place in Higginson Park between 11am and 1pm.

Speaking on Facebook, those organising the protest said: “We want to do something locally to highlight the Black Lives Matter movement and stand with the BAME community in demanding an end to systemic racism and to create an opportunity for engagement and education in our local community.

“We invite everyone to come and join us as we peacefully stand, kneel, pray or protest in a socially distanced manner.

“If you want to sit or kneel, please aim for the front two rows that have been marked out.

"If you'd prefer to stand, please aim for the third row.”

“We want you to feel you can join in whatever capacity feels right for you, but ask that two metres social distancing and a peaceful atmosphere is adhered to at all times.

“We will mark out two metres spaces on the grass to the left as you enter Higginson Park to make this easier for everyone.”

The organisers also confirmed that those showing the symptoms for coronavirus, must not attend the protest and that they should stay at home.
